Instead of quitting…
Well, when the City of Phoenix tried to make us quit, I asked you to pray about the future of Prodigal’s Home, our ministry to the homeless and poor of Phoenix.
So if you prayed, this is your fault!
Because God has opened an unbelievable, unforeseen door for us.
It’s a house – right in the heart of the Sunnyslope neighborhood where we began – almost literally a stone’s throw from the park where we first fed homeless people 4 years ago.
From this outpost, smack in the middle of our “mission field,” we’ll be able to minister 24/7. Day-in, day-out. One-on-one. Heart to heart… to the people God has called us to.
We’ll become, in effect, a home to the homeless. A place to drop by, get in out of the heat, have a cool drink, maybe get a shower, maybe share a meal. It will be a place to have a quiet Bible study. Work out problems like restoring lost I.D. Things we’ve been doing out of our cars, or out of borrowed rooms, or on the street … we’ll now be able to do from our own place.
A home of our own … for the homeless.
But here’s what I find most amazing of all: the house God has led us to sold for over $200,000 just 4 years ago.
Today, we can get it for $35,000 cash. And this total includes repairs on drywall and plumbing fixtures, plus all new carpet and paint – with a ton of volunteer labor, of course.
Since the day God gave birth to Prodigal’s Home, I have never felt so certain of His divine direction. I believe our ministry from this house, on 9th Avenue, will be more effective, more life-changing by the power and grace of God, than any work we’ve done up to this point.
So I’m asking you – as one who has given generously already, one who has invested in what God has been doing among the homeless – to pray with me, and to give a generous gift, to help us buy this house.
I’m praying that some of our friends will be able to give major gifts of $1,000 or more. Or maybe you can take a 1% stake by giving $350. Or give $175 and let me combine your gift with someone else’s. Maybe you could give $100. Whatever you’re able to do, I’ll be grateful – and you can be absolutely sure that your gift will translate into actual, ongoing, face-to-face ministry in the heart of the hood.
I do need to ask you to move quickly, though. The City of Phoenix will close us down at our current location by the beginning of December, so the clock is ticking. We have a huge pile of work to do before then. So please do whatever you can right away.
Thank you for understanding, and for caring. God bless you!
Grace & Peace,
Mike
